Discovering unexpected opportunities
Initially, we set out to discover ways to help reduce cracks and breakage of the KatKit. As we explored structural solutions, we also became aware of other customer wants, such as the desire for higher walls which help create an enclosed, private space for cats.

Ensuring strength and stackability
We obsessively refined the form of the KatKit, ensuring that it offered the right amount of strength, height, and compactness for shipping. We iterated in CAD until we were confident with the results, and then we created thermoformed plastic parts to confirm its proportions and strength.
By adopting a two-piece design, we were able to create a tighter, more compact stack. This, combined with a rounder, sturdier form, creates a stronger design less prone to breakage while also reducing shipping costs.

A completely revamped Katkit
The resulting design is stronger and more compact, creating a better design for shipping. It’s also more enclosed: a better design for pets and pet owners. The most dramatic change is that the aesthetics are dramatically improved: unique, recognizable, and a miles ahead of the old, off-the-shelf design.
