Our mission is simple: to improve the quality of life through innovative design.
We achieve this by emphasizing collaboration, creativity, and intelligence at every step in the product-design process. We listen effectively and communicate clearly, ensuring that every decision is driven by our clients’ goals and potential. We combine our passion for innovation with our knowledge of the latest technologies to generate creative, cost-effective, and user-friendly designs. And we define our success by the success we’re able to help our clients find in the marketplace.
The story of CHOi Design begins in Chicago in 1994.
This was the year that a new product and industrial design firm — led by founder Charles Choi — started its first product designs for Weber and Baxter Healthcare. The first product for Weber, an Australian-market only flat-top grill, eventually led to a new top-of-the-line American grill category for Weber: the Summit Series. CHOi also began its successful advance into the field of medical and surgical product design with Baxter and Cardinal Health, a partnership that continues today. By the year 2003, when we marked our ten-year anniversary, we had solidified ourselves as a leading industrial design firm for commercial-, consumer-, and medical-based clients.
Our partners have included Hamilton Beach, Sunbeam, Agri-Fab, Progeny Dental, Waterloo Industries, Taylor Precision Products, Tanita, Photogenic Professional Lighting, Hearthware, Waterpik, GTE Airphone, Gendex/Dentsply, and Cardinal Health — strong brands with industry-leading products.
When we first opened our doors in 1993, there was only one employee — our founder, Charles Choi.
A year later, CHOi Design brought on a second designer. And that's when our growth cycle began: Fresh talent meant new clients, and new clients meant the need for even more talent. Today, our team includes five designers, one intern, an office manager, and several adjunct consultants who boast expertise in mechanical engineering. Our size allows us to offer the attention of a small firm as well as the resources of a larger one.
The CHOi design team specializes in product design and development; user research; identity development/brand strategy; product information; interface design; and mechanical and electronic engineering. While the CHOi staff reflects a range of ethnic, national, and educational backgrounds, all members of our team share a single desire: to do great work. And we all draw on collaboration, creativity, and intelligence to get this great work done.
